Ask, offer, and meet — no one else sees
Ask a neighbor for a hand with something ordinary — a meal at the door, a couch carried down the stairs. Latchstring asks a few people who already know you, then opens a line between you only after you both say yes. No money. No public board.
Invitations only for now — find a friend who can invite you.
How a match happens
One
Share the task, timing, rough area, boundaries, and who Latchstring asks for you. It's a draft only you can see until you submit — and even then, nothing is posted anywhere.
Two
They see a short preview — no exact address, no name you didn't choose to show. They can say no; you never learn who was asked, and they're never asked twice.
Three
A helper raises a hand; you accept; only then do names, the exact address, and a way to talk appear — to the two of you.
No one sees that you asked
A meal dropped off, groceries picked up, a shoulder for moving a couch — even small asks still ask something of trust. Latchstring begins inside circles you already keep, then widens only as far as it must, through people who fit. Nothing is posted publicly.
Common ways people help
Excluded from Latchstring: medical care, personal care, childcare, professional services, and anything that should be paid work. Help here is offered, not owed.
An invitation
Whether you need a hand or want to offer one, nothing is posted publicly and no one coordinates until both people agree. The latchstring is out.
